The most important aspect of Adrien’s support was the emotional side. Adrien helped me understand my mood changes and how to recognize and prevent burnout. He also introduced me to meditation and how to not be afraid of having a relationship with my true inner self. I must confess that not all of it was happy. Adrien made me face some very dark shadows that I had been avoiding. I now can say that I accept full responsibility for my life and that I have won the war with my “victim” self. I am now on the path of freedom, of living fearlessly creating my own future. I met Adrien on our car ride to our mankind project weekend. I had just moved to Vancouver and we both were in transitional periods in our lives. During the weekend, he expressed his desire to pursue his passion to help people reach their very best thorough holistic coaching. He did not need to finish the sentence before I said I was in. My journey with nutrition and fitness has been a rocky one. Being the son of a former college athlete, there was always pressure to be involved in some kind of physical activity. Yet, somehow I was terrible at every sport that I played. I carried a lot of guilt for not being able to be the all star athlete I was supposed to become. Somehow, the idea of an Olympic medalist and professional athlete coaching me sounded like my salvation. And it was the beginning of it. But I must tell you, it looked nothing like I expected. I expected a hybrid between a fitness coach and a dietitian. Someone that can work with my ego and my rationale and baby sit me through the steps to my success. Adrien did none of that. He went deep, very deep. This is not easy, but it works. During my 6 months with Adrien I have learned to listen to my body. To notice the effects that food has in my system but more importantly notice the emotions that are attached with foods. Awareness is the beginning of change. I learned how to read labels and not to buy foods with ingredients that I do not know nor can pronounce. I learned to limit caffeine and sugar consumption, because of what it did to my system. I learned to balance my meals and to listen to cravings for greens or protein. I now know that bad carbs will be felt 30 minutes after you eat them. But more importantly, I learned to not let emotions control my eating habits. Adrien would always bring a nutritious gift to our sessions! I also learned to love physical activities for the effects that it has on me. Adrien woke up at 530 in the morning to come to spin class with me; he knew that I needed the moral support. We went hiking on the Grouse Grind together with friends. He taught me how to love what I do at the level that I am doing it and not compare it to others. Today I go to mostly social workout classes and I mix that with yoga for balance and peace of mind. I love every second of it. The most important aspect of Adrien’s support was the emotional side. I signed up for a “Professional Athlete and Olympic Medalist” trainer and dietitian. I came out of there with a best friend and the catalyst for my transformation into my very best self.
I had tried many times to meditate and do yoga to help me center my thoughts and find more balance but after years of trying, I had decided that I just wasn’t made for it. Then, a year ago, when on top of having quite a demanding job I was going through a lot of change in my personal life, a friend of mine recommended Adrien as a health coach. I decided to give it a try and I got so much more than I had ever expected. Adrien’s approach to look at body and mind as being deeply connected has proven to have high impact. He is a great listener and I never felt pushed into doing anything. He always gently guided me to overcome my resistance and limiting thought patterns. He is also very generous and inspiring when sharing his own life journey and in between sessions was always there for me when I needed that bit of extra support. Today, I am really hooked on yoga and meditate nearly every day. I have learned a lot about myself in the six months we have been working together and feel much fitter, healthier and more lighthearted. I am deeply grateful for having had Adrien as my coach and I can wholeheartedly recommend him to anybody searching for a way to find more joy in life.
